We Build Homes for Intellectually Disabled Adults

DONATE

Where do adults with intellectual disabilities go when their parents can no longer care for them?

Without our help, these individuals often end up in institutions. Intellectually disabled adults can live productive lives, working and contributing to society, but they cannot live alone. That's where Marian Homes, a project of Fairfax Knights of Columbus, comes in. We have purchased and remodeled seven homes in Fairfax County, VA to enable adults in the county with intellectual disabilities to live independently with others once their parents can no longer care for them.
While we are proud of the nearly forty individuals for whom we have provided group housing, there are still over 1,000 other individuals in the county who need our help. Your donation ensures more individuals have a home to go to when their parents can no longer care for them or when the facility they are in closes down. Through your generous donation, we are able to provide these adults a place to call home.

Our Lady of Angels ~ Our 8th Home

Picture

On April 27th, we settled on our eighth home. This purchase proved to be much more difficult than our previous homes. Increased demand in the Northern Virginia housing market has pushed many of our target style homes out of our price range. In addition, the cost of building materials needed to renovate and put house #8 into service as a group home has also skyrocketed since this time last year.

In addition to these financial challenges, the pandemic forced us to cancel most of our annual fundraisers. Although we continue to conduct “no-touch” shredding events, they cannot make up for the substantial reductions from our historically robust fundraising sources.

In spite of all these challenges, the need for our mission continues to grow and our commitment to serve persons with intellectual disabilities remains unchanged. We ask for your prayers for the continued success of Marian Homes.

I am hoping that you can support Marian Homes’ mission to provide affordable housing to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities with one of these fundraising options:

  • Use Amazon Smile (smile.amazon.com) and designate Marian Homes as your charity for every purchase you make. Marian Homes will get 0.5% of your total order at no additional cost to you. This small percentage can add up fast
  • Make a tax-deductible charitable contribution to Marian Homes by check to the address in the letterhead above, or electronically at www.marianhomes.org.
  • Make a donation from your donor-advised funds, or your individual IRA account as a “Qualified Charitable Distribution.” Please consult your tax advisor for your situation.
  • Make a recurring monthly donation by clicking HERE.

We are truly blessed to have committed donors to support us as we continue to provide affordable group housing to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The new home opening and blessing of the home is scheduled for Friday, October 29 at 3:30 PM.

Our Seventh Home
Dedicated July 11, 2020

We celebrated the opening of our seventh home for people with intellectual disabilities, July 11, 2020. The new Mother of Good Counsel House in Fairfax, VA will soon be home to five women. Multiple companies and organizations donated more than $100,000 in labor and materials to renovate the home for the residents. Bishop Michael F. Burbidge blessed the home and cut the ribbon at a socially distanced ceremony. Read more here
