The Knights of Columbus, Council 8600,
play a large role in Marian Home. Each year, the group holds fund-raisers
specifically geared to support the house. Previous efforts have included:
·
Christmas/Easter Ham Sale
·
Redskins' Ticket Raffle
·
Grocery Coupon Sales
·
Sweetheart Ball
The men also donate much time and energy,
as well as funds, to maintain the property and improve and renovate the
house and surrounding land. The Council prepared the house for the
residents by replacing all the lifts in doorways to allow wheelchairs to
ride over easily, expanding doorways, and adding chair rails.
Recently, the Council
upgraded the pantry area to be wheelchair
accessible. The laundry room was also improved to include a front-loading
washer and dryer. This allows most of the residents to do their own
laundry without assistance. We completed the
renovation of the kitchen, making it accessible for the residents. |

Three Knights get their hands dirty while planting new
bushes in front of the house. The group accomplishes many of the tasks
through their own hard labor, while contracting out more difficult jobs
that require professionals to alter the interior of the house. |
