House Operations

The smooth operation of Marian House depends upon the cooperation Council 8600 of the Knights of Columbus, Chimes/Virginia, and the five residents. Each has its own role and duties to fulfill. The Council and Chimes together carry the financial burden of the mortgage, which they split evenly. The Council works to continually improve and renovate the house and its surrounding land. The men are continually looking for ways to make living for the Marian Home so it is more convenient and accessible for all of the residents. Chimes role supplies any necessary medical equipment needed, including an industrial-style bathing area for the wheelchair bound that is located in one of the bathrooms.

Chimes staffs the house with caring professionals to oversee and assist in the day-to-day operations and maintenance. The staff helps the women perform routine daily activities that may be challenging for them. The women also need the staff to transport them to and from their jobs, as well as places of entertainment.

The women’s role, however, is the greatest. Each has a responsibility to herself and the others to take care of her own belongings as well as the common areas, while never forgetting to enjoy life and the independence that they know have. Their contribution is what really makes Marian House a home.
